MultNAT GBS Assay

Product Overview

MultNAT GBS Assay is an automated, real-time PCR test in vitro nucleic acid amplification test used for qualitative diagnosis of Group B Streptococcus (GBS) DNA in vaginal/rectal swab specimens collected from pregnant patients for intrapartum testing at term (e.g., >37 weeks) who have unknown or unavailable antepartum GBS screening test results and no additional risk factors that would warrant empiric antibiotic prophylaxis. This MultNAT GBS Assay performed during intrapartum is intended to aid in the detection of GBS colonization in patients presenting in labor who may be candidates for antibiotic prophylaxis. The kit is designed for professional laboratory use. The MultNAT GBS Assay does not provide antimicrobial susceptibility test results.
  • Precise result in less than 44 min
  • Easy to use and control the hands-on time within 2 mins
  • Point-of-care Nucleic Acid Testing applicable across diverse medical settings
  • Comprehensive detection of 10 distinct targets supports physicians in prescribing  targeted treatments

Ongoing Challenges

  • Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a common bacterium that can contribute to life-threatening infections in infants, including sepsis, pneumonia and meningitis.

  • Globally, GBS causes more than 500 000 premature births, and roughly 150 000 stillbirths and infant deaths each year.(1)

  • Universal or risk-based screening for GBS during pregnancy, as well as preventive antibiotics during labour, can reduce the risk of early-onset GBS disease in newborns. However, antibiotic treatment does not prevent stillbirths, preterm births, or GBS infections after the first week of life.(2)

  • Women who come to delivery room may remian unkonwn about their GBS status.
